Maropeng welcomes pensioners to the Cradle of Humankind with the Old Fossil Special.
The special includes a Maropeng tour at R60 (the normal cost is R80), tea and coffee in the reception nave on arrival, and lunch in the Tumulus Restaurant at R45. The Old Fossil Special also exempts pensioners from a parking fee.
Cooper’s Cave picnic
Maropeng and iHominin are offering budding palaeontologists a rare opportunity to explore a 1.5-million-year-old fossil site.
Cooper’s Cave, 1.2km from the famous Sterkfontein Caves near Johannesburg, is a relatively newly discovered fossil site, where several species of animals and a number of stone tools have been found.The day’s activities include a walking tour, an interactive fossil and site talk, exploring a cave, a chance to look for fossils, and learning how to make stone tools.
This is a must-do for adults and children with an interest in palaeontology and archaeology. Remember to pack a jersey, torch, hat, apply sunscreen and wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes – oh, and bring your camera!The tour will start at 09h00 at Sterkfontein Caves. This is a family event. The cost is R350 per person.

The Old Dining Room comfortably seats 26 people. A maximum of 70 guests are catered for in the Crystal Terrace Room that overlooks the classically designed pool, rustic gardens and natural dams flanking the passage way leading up to the indigenous forest. MAGALIESBURG CANOPY TOURS
The MAGALIESBERG CANOPY TOUR is a unique eco-adventure that takes clients on a 2,5 hour tour down the spectacular Ysterhout Kloof, set in the ancient Magaliesberg Mountains. Eleven platforms have been built against the cliffs and rock faces of the kloof and are joined by long steel cables that clients slide along to reach the next platform. Much like a "foefie" slide, the canopy tour essentially involves zigzagging down the kloof while stopping at each platform to admire the expansive views and surrounding ecology.
