MAROPENG HOTEL AND TUMULUS RESTAURANT
Swartkrans walking tour
Maropeng is happy to announce that we will be hosting our popular Swartkrans Walking Tours again in 2010.
Swartkrans, one of the Cradle’s richest fossil sites, is usually closed to the public. But on these tours, small groups will have a rare opportunity to observe an active palaeontological dig and will be guided around the site by scientist Morris Sutton, who is currently excavating there.
Swartkrans has yielded the largest sample of Paranthropus robustus, and it is also significant for the discovery of the earliest evidence of the use of controlled fire in Southern Africa, dating back 1-million years.The tour costs R350 per person and includes a sumptuous picnic

Maropeng has launched regular Sunday carvery lunches at the Tumulus Restaurant. The carvery includes a choice of two roasts, salads and desserts.
Acoustic Moodz will provide entertainment as they combine the elegant sounds of guitar and marimba, setting a relaxed and unobtrusive atmosphere to laze away the afternoon.
The Sunday carvery lunches will be available every Sunday from 12h00 to 15h00 at a cost of R125 per adult.
Old Fossil Special
Weekly, Mondays
Maropeng welcomes pensioners to the Cradle of Humankind with the Old Fossil Special.
The special includes a Maropeng tour at R55 (the normal cost is R75), tea and coffee in the reception nave on arrival, and lunch in the Tumulus Restaurant at R35. The Old Fossil Special also exempts pensioners from a parking fee.
The special is valid on Mondays only and cannot be booked online, unfortunately.

MAGALIESBURG CANOPY TOURS
The MAGALIESBERG CANOPY TOUR is a unique eco-adventure that takes clients on a 2,5 hour tour down the spectacular Ysterhout Kloof, set in the ancient Magaliesberg Mountains. Eleven platforms have been built against the cliffs and rock faces of the kloof and are joined by long steel cables that clients slide along to reach the next platform.
